Have you ever noticed how some couples seem to have a life theme? When my man and I first started dating, I didn’t know one could exist in a relationship! But as the months rolled behind us, we began to notice a strong theme intertwined in our dating years.

Now, with dating behind us and 4 years of marriage under our belts, the theme is still proving it’s presence. Even today, it still hasn’t changed!

The Theme of Our Lives

The Theme of Our Lives

Our lives have revolved around waiting. Perhaps it’s because we tend to be a methodical couple? Early on, it seemed like we were impressed with the reality that rushing into things often leads to regrets.

We didn’t choose this as our life’s theme! It has reared it’s head again and again in powerful ways, from days of sickness and dating into our current married lives. The importance of waiting has been implanted into our brains. And the times we haven’t considered it important, we’ve been reminded of just how much it matters!

Our Simple Reminder

Because this theme proved itself so strong in a thousand different ways, my man made me a special Christmas gift the winter after we were engaged. Made from birch wood, it goes with us wherever we move.

The photo was taken of us during dating years, after a group of us had hiked to a beautiful waterfall in the north.

At the bottom, my left-handed man wood burned what was (and continues to be) our life verse: “Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed” (Ps. 25:3).

The Theme of Our Lives

Waiting. This is the theme of our lives. Wherever we go, this frame has graced the walls of our home both as a reminder and a memory of what God has done in our lives through times of waiting.

Do you have a theme? Have you ever stopped to ponder this idea?
