How to Clean Pickling Cucumbers in a Washing Machine
Wash cucumbers in a top loading washing machine on preserving day to cut back on the work load.
Equipment
- top loading washing machine
- large bowl for cucumbers
- kitchen sink for rinsing
Materials
- 10-20 pounds pickling cucumbers
Instructions
- Place cucumbers in the washing machine.
- Turn water setting to cold.
- Set machine to delicate wash.
- Turn machine on and add 6-8 inches of cold water to drum.
- Adjust the dial, so machine starts "washing" or swishing cucumbers around.
- Washing for 30-60 seconds.
- Stop machine and lift cucumbers into a large bowl or bin.
- Take cucumbers to kitchen sink and rinse to remove loose dirt.
- Prepare for pickling as usual.
- Be sure to wipe out washing machine before doing laundry!
